Psoriasis is a skin disorder that impacts more than seven million people throughout the United States, and more than 125 million around the world.
This condition is characterized by a skin lifestyle that is much faster than it should be, which results in the skin cells building up on the surface. The scales these create can be very itchy, uncomfortable, and even painful. While there is no cure for psoriasis, there are ways to help control the symptoms. Most people have triggers or influences that cause or worsen psoriasis symptoms. One of the most common is stress. Your parent might experience a flare when they are under stress, or they might experience more intense symptoms if they are stressed. As a family caregiver, if you take the time to help your senior manage stress, you can help them to reduce psoriasis symptoms and better cope with the disease.
Use these tips to help your senior manage stress to reduce psoriasis:
–Encourage your aging parent to utilize relaxation techniques, such as breathing exercises.
–Work with them to create a home environment that is clean, organized, streamlined, and peaceful. Living in this type of environment is far less stressful, and can help your parent cope with emotional situations.
–Help your parents find a support group. Support groups are designed to give people a place where they can express their emotions, talk about what they’re going through, receive advice from others who have been where they are, and even help those who are not as far in their journey. All of these to ease stress, and support better emotional health.
–Consider starting elderly care for your parent. Having an elderly home care services provider with your senior enables them to have more control and autonomy in their daily life. Feeling more independent can reduce stress, as can knowing they have access to care and support tasks tailored specifically to helping your parent meet their needs effectively.
Helping to ease and manage stress can be a valuable service of an elderly care provider. Your parent’s stress is not the only issue you should be thinking about when you are caring for them during their later years. As a family caregiver, it is also extremely important for you to keep in mind your own stress, and the impact this can have on your mental, emotional, and even physical health and well-being. Those adults who choose to become family caregivers are more susceptible to experiencing stress, as well as the complications and consequences associated with it, then those adults who are not family caregivers.
If you do not manage this stress properly, you can experience a variety of complications including increased risk for illness and infection, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and more. The services of an elderly home care services provider can make a tremendous difference. Knowing your parent has access to customized care lets you worry less, allows you more time to yourself, and gives you the opportunity to focus on other elements of your life so you feel less “stretched thin”, and better able to be your best for everyone who relies on you.
As a physician who lives and serves in Northern Virginia, I have come to know several people who at some time in their life needed home care services. In my office I hear stories of good and bad experiences and I desired to offer something better – a company that would serve as a blessing to the clients we serve by providing them with reliable, quality, and compassionate care. Having served as a primary care physician, I understand the needs of patients and their family who often times do not have the assistance they desperately need. So I have created a company that delivers on providing peace of mind, recovery time, a lending hand, a stress free environment, and a constant companion.
As a native of the Washington, DC, I have truly enjoyed working in this area and volunteering my time in a variety of social and civic organizations in DC, MD and VA. I feel is it important to give back to your community and be of service to others.
I also believe in the importance of living healthy and having emotional stability and peace of mind. As a local physician and health coach I will add a sense of confidence, trust, and expertise unlike any other home care agency.
I work hard everyday at Brighthope Homecare to do what I do best – care for those in need and make a positive impact in the lives of our clients!
